Construction Management
BioMax Environmental performed on-site industrial hygiene and ambient air monitoring during excavation and pile driving activities of Bents 23, 24, and 25 of the Caltrans Cypress Structure Overpass Reconstruction Project located in Oakland, California. BioMax professionals also performed on-site industrial hygiene services and safety oversight during excavation and storm sewer replacement construction activities involving soils and groundwater contaminated with lead, petroleum bi-products, and halogenated compounds such as vinyl chloride. Chemical hazards and industrial hygiene analysis included personal and area sampling for vinyl chloride, lead, and total dust. On-site monitoring included the use of a gas chromatograph, MiniRam aerosol (dust) analyzer, a photoionization detector, and Summa canister TO-14 ambient air analysis.

BioMax has served as the DPW’s contracted Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) on numerous hazardous waste projects from 2000 to present. Mr. Polkabla, acting as Project CIH has provided professional review of draft project specifications and scope of work documents, prepared subcontractor specifications, reviewed contractor site-specific safety and health plan documents, and prepared site-specific safety and health plan (SSHP) and air monitoring plan documents for DPW field and management personnel. BioMax has also provided on-site training pertaining to the specific job activities where the potential for encountering and handling hazardous waste exists. BioMax has also provided DPW personnel with 40-hour HAZWOPER training and 8-hour Refresher training in accordance with Cal/OSHA requirements.

BioMax has developed numerous site-Specific Safety and Health Plan documents for general construction firms within the Sonoma County and Santa Rosa regional areas. Scopes of work have included a multitude of infrastructure renovation and construction related projects where hazardous materials have been encountered and appropriately controlled in accordance with current Cal/OSHA requirements and standards. Contractors performing the work have included Ghilloti Construction, Argonaut Construction, and North Bay Construction, to name only a few. Hazardous materials encountered and mitigated have included halogenated compounds, petroleum based contaminants (including MTBE), inorganic lead, mercury, pesticides, and wood preservatives.

Drug Lab Assessment and Mitigation

BioMax professionals provided a variety of services pertaining to the assessment and clean-up of properties which have been contaminated by the illeagal manufacturing, storage, and use of methamphetamine products. BioMax has successfully performed dozens of such assessments in conjunction with the requirements of the California State leglislature and coordination with local counties, cities, and health departments.
